Mystery of Providence - Flavel - IX - Chapter 9 continued

Required reading
Mystery of Providence by John Flavel (available from Amazon or free on the internet, here for example) - Chapter 9 continued (sections 'In all your observations...' and 'In all your reviews...').

My notes and thoughts
We carry on with ways to meditate upon the providence of God.  Two ways are part of today's reading: (i) have special respect to that Word of God which is fulfilled in providence; and (ii) eye God as the author of all providences.
I appreciated Flavel drawing out the link between the Bible and providence.  The words of Scripture have been clearly fulfilled over and over again in history and in our own lives and this should encourage us to stay true to the word and let providence do its work.  If we do this, we have an immense relief: 'O what a burden is off your shoulders when you have resigned the case to God!  Then Providence concludes your affairs comfortably for you.  The difficulty is soon over when the heart is brought to this.'  In other words, just do what the Bible says and everything will be alright.  Now why is that so hard?
I like this line emphasising God's sovereignty in providence compared with our inability: 'It is not many years ago since we were not, and when it pleased Him to bring us upon the stage of action, we had no liberty of contracting with Him on what terms we would come into the world, or refuse to be, except we might have our being on such terms as we desired.'  When you consider how long you've been around for and how long God has been around, why would you ever question him on anything?!?
Now it's your turn
