Prayer - Bunyan - V - Section II continued
Required reading
Prayer by John Bunyan (Available from Amazon or free here) - Continue Section II (Throne of Grace) and Chapter 2 by reading point 2 (How the godly distinguish the throne of grace from other thrones).
My summary
Bunyan continues in Chapter Two teaching about the throne of grace.
Now we learn that the throne of grace has:
(i) a rainbow;
(ii) a high priest;
(iii) a sacrifice;
(iv) a river of grace;
(v) twenty four thrones around it;
(vi) proceeding from it lightning, thunder and voices.
What grabbed me
I really enjoyed Bunyan's detailed explanation as to the great significance of the rainbow at the throne of grace: 'Thus you see that a rainbow is round about the throne of grace, and what this rainbow is. Look then, when you got to prayer, for the throne; and that you may not be deceived with a fancy, look for the rainbow too. The rainbow, that is, as I have said, the personal performances of Christ your Saviour for you. Look, I say, for that, it is his righteousness; the token of the everlastingness of the covenant of grace; the object of God's delight, and must be the ground of the justification of thy person and performances before God. God looks at it, look you at it, and at it only.'
Marvel at the rainbow of Christ's righteousness!
