Hints and helps in pastoral theology - Plumer - XXIII - Chapter 29

Required reading
Hints and helps in pastoral theology by William S Plumer (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Chapter 29 (The duty of Americans).

My summary
Now Plumer encourages Americans to do something great for good.

Firstly he gives a brief history of America.

Then he exhorts Americans to take the gospel to the end of the earth.  Particularly in light of their blessings of:
(i) freedom;
(ii) simplicity in religion;
(iii) wealth;
(iv) population size.

What grabbed me
Interesting chapter.

I liked the last paragraph: 'What we do, we must do quickly. Eternity is just at hand. Time —

" That stuff that life is made of,
And which when lost is never lost alone,
Because it carries souls upon its wings,"

will soon be gone forever. Quit you like men.
'

Not just Americans, but everyone should make the most of every opportunity that the Lord gives.

Next week's reading
Read Chapter
30 (The relations of America to other lands).
