Making many glad: The life and labours of Daniel Baker by William M. Baker (Available from Amazon or free here) - Continue Chapter 11 (Second mission to Texas) by reading up to the paragraph commencing 'In the course of his labours among all classes of persons, in all sections of the land, incidents would often occur not at all common in the even life of the city pastor.'

My summary
Baker continues to move around Texas sharing the gospel.

We hear about his:
(i) temporary blindness;
(ii) danger from Indians (including a false report that he had been murdered by them);
(iii) efforts to support Presbyterian churches;
(iv) planting churches;
(v) danger from wolves and panthers;
(vi) being lost almost to the point of death.

What grabbed me
I liked reading about Baker's inability to stop: 'Cessation from labour was to him a heavy affliction of itself. This reminds the writer, that being with him once during one of his missionary tours, on which he was accustomed to preach at least once every day, he complained one Monday morning of having so "dissipated a feeling — nothing to do." He had preached twice the day before, and was to preach at least once on the day after; but something prevented his preaching that day.'

If only more of us hated to be idle.
