Christian's daily walk - Scudder - XXIII - Chapter 16 (Showing the means to attain the peace of God)

Required reading
The Christian's daily walk, in holy security and peace by Henry Scudder (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Chapter 16 (Showing the means to attain the peace of God).

My summary
Now to finish his book, Scudder shows us the means to attain true peace of God.

After briefly looking at causes of misjudging our state, Scudder encourages us to make a right judgement of ourselves by:
(i) observing the differences in true Christians;
(ii) trusting not our own judgement.

Next Scudder gives directions for a troubled conscience:
(i) acquaint others with your case;
(ii) deal plainly in showing the cause of your trouble;
(iii) believe others rather than yourself.

Then Scudder shows us the means to get and preserve true peace: cherish the Spirit of God in you.

What grabbed me
I appreciated Scudder's advice on how to get the Spirit's help, particularly this point: 'The first means to get the Spirit, is humility. To be sensible of the loss of that which once you had in Adam, you must mourn, and hunger and thirst after the Spirit, Matt. v. 3 — 6. If you will do thus, you may hope to receive the Spirit. For God saith, that he will pour water upon him that is thirsty, &c. I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, saith he to the church, Isa. xliv. 3. '

Humility toward God is an excellent first step in resolving any problem we may have.
