Required reading
The Journals of George Whitefield (Available from Amazon or free here) - Commence 'A journal of a voyage from London to Savannah in Georgia' Part I by reading up to the paragraph beginning 'Monday, January 23. Was much comforted by receiving five more letters...'
My summary
Today we see Whitefield leave London and stop at Margate and Deal.
He ministers to everyone on board the ship, including passengers, soldiers and sailors. He also preaches when on shore.
We hear about his:
(i) preaching;
(ii) catechising;
(iii) prayers;
(iv) reading;
(v) ministry to the sick.
What grabbed me
I liked this comment on prayer: 'Had great comfort in reading the Scriptures. Was afterwards a little inclined to heaviness, but drove it off by a long intercession. Prayer is an antidote against every evil.'
We would sin less if we valued prayer more.
Next week's reading
