A view of the covenant of grace - Boston - I - Head I commenced

Required reading
A view of the covenant of grace by Thomas Boston (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read up to the heading 'II. Of the party-contractor on man's side.'

My summary
This week we start a new work on the covenant of grace by Boston.

Firstly Boston gives several comments on the building of mercy.

Secondly, Boston considers four things about the building, including the:
(i) foundation;
(ii) parties-contractors;
(iii) making of it;
(iv) nature of it.

Then Boston begins the main part of the work by commencing his first head: 'The parties in the covenant of grace'.

We learn about the party-contractor on heaven's side: God.

What grabbed me
I liked the description of the parties in the covenant of grace: 'The parties contracted for in this second covenant, were considered as under the bands of death, absolutely void of life ; and therefore utterly incapable to act for helping themselves.  They lay like dry bones scattered about the grave's mouth, before the parties-contractors; justice forbidding to give them life, but upon terms consistent with, and becoming its honour.'

We definitely needed the covenant of grace!

Next week's reading
Continue the First Head by reading up to the heading 'III. Of the party contracted and undertaken for.'

Now it's your turn
