Required reading
A view of the covenant of grace by Thomas Boston (Available from Amazon or free here) - Commence the Fourth Head by reading up to the heading 'IV. The nature of the administration of the covenant'.
My summary
Today we start the fourth head which is on the administration of the covenant of grace.
This week, Boston asks us to consider the:
(i) party on whom the administration of the covenant is devolved (Christ);
(ii) object of the administration of the covenant (sinners);
(iii) ends of the administration of the covenant (bringing sinners into the covenant, the management of sinners in this world, the completing of sinners happiness in the other world).
What grabbed me
I liked this plea to the reader from Boston: 'Wherefore we conclude, that sinners of mankind indefinitely are the object of Christ's administration of the covenant ; that he is empowered to administer it to you, and every one of you, whatever you are, or have been ; and that you must either take hold of the covenant for life and salvation, or perish as despisers of it, since ye have heard the gospel.'
You have heard the gospel, now take hold of it!
Next week's reading
Continue the Fourth Head by reading up to the heading 'II. Christ the testator of the covenant'.
