Required reading
Ante-Nicene Fathers (Vol 5) (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read the 'Appendix to the works of Hippolytus'.
My summary
Today we work our way through a few writings that have been attributed to Hippolytus.
Firstly we read a lengthy discourse on the second coming. Hippolytus draws material from Old Testament prophets as well as New Testament authors.
Secondly Hippolytus gives us one sentence biographies of the twelve and seventy apostles.
Then we read the heads of various church canons.
What grabbed me
Given tomorrow is Easter Sunday, I was interested to read this tradition: 'That no one ought to sleep on the night of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.'
I'm glad that practice has been discontinued!
Next week's reading
Read the 'Life and passion of Cyprian'.
