Ante-Nicene Fathers (Volume 6) - V - Extant Fragments of Dionysius commenced

Required reading
Ante-Nicene Fathers (Vol 6) (Available from Amazon or free here) - Commence the Fragments Works of Dionysius by reading 'Part I - Containing various sections of the works'.

My summary
Now we begin the works of Dionysius, another pupil of Origen.

Firstly, we read Dionysius' thoughts on the millennium in Revelation, along with his rejection of John's authorship.

Secondly, he gives us a lengthy discourse that rejects Greek atomic theory.

Thirdly, Dionysius speaks about the generation of matter.

Fourthly, he writes about the Trinity, particularly Father and Son.

Fifthly, he discusses when to close the fast on the day of Pentecost and, then, the need to follow the conscience on certain sexual matters.

What grabbed me
I didn't appreciate the rejection of John's authorship.

But liked the nice clear statement on the trinity: '...we expand the indivisible Unity into a Trinity; and again we contract the Trinity, which cannot be diminished, into a Unity.'

It might not be completely comprehensible to us, but this is what the Scriptures teach.

Next week's reading
Conclude the Extant Fragments of Dionysius.
