Misrepresentations Corrected and Truth Vindicated in Vol I of the Works by Jonathan Edwards (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Part I.
My summary.
Today we begin a work in which Edwards seeks to correct misrepresentations by a Mr Williams concerning Edwards' position on who should be admitted to the Lord's table.
Firstly Edwards defends himself from the charge that his main design in writing the book on the subject was to oppose Mr Stoddard.
Secondly Edwards dismisses some of the particular misrepresentations that Mr Williams made about the evidences that Edwards seeks before admitting anyone to the Supper.
What grabbed me
I liked this section from the church covenant that Edwards drew up for his people to profess: '"I hope, I truly find in my heart a willingness to comply with all the commandments of God, which require me to give up myself wholly to him, and to serve him with my body and my spirit; and do accordingly now promise to walk in a way of obedience to all the commandments of God, as long as I live.'
If someone who claims to be a Christian cannot affirm that statement, they're not a Christian.
