Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices by Thomas Brooks (available from Amazon or free on the internet, here for example) - Chapter 4, Devices 3 and 4.
My notes and thoughts
Device 3: 'By working the soul to make false inferences from the cross actings of Providence.' I think I've already commented on Brooks' tendency to repeat himself and this is another example. What he has said in answer to this device has basically been said in other sections, particularly those on suffering. In fact he actually repeats the same story about a guy who couldn't go to France because he broke his leg and so saved his life. The story is on pages 115 and 152 in my Banner of Truth edition. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the book. Brooks has excellent insights but he could have combined some of the sections.
Device 4: 'By suggesting to them that their graces are not true but counterfeit.' Brooks' remedies explain the differences between common and saving grace.
