A view of the covenant of grace - Boston - II - Head I continued

Required reading
A view of the covenant of grace by Thomas Boston (Available from Amazon or free here) - Continue the First Head by reading up to the heading 'III. Of the party contracted and undertaken for.'

My summary
Today we continue reading Boston's First Head about 'The parties in the covenant of grace'.

Last week we learnt about the party-contractor on heaven's side: God.

This week we learn about the party-contractor on man's side: Christ.

Firstly Boston establishes that the covenant of grace was made with Christ as the last Adam and representative of a seed.

Secondly Boston shows that the covenant was made so:
(i) that infinite love might have an early vent;
(ii) that dead sinners might have life;
(iii) that it might be unto us poor sinners a covenant of grace indeed;
(iv) that the communication of righteousness and life might be in as compendious a way;
(v) it might be a sure covenant.

Boston finishes his section with some inferences.

What grabbed me
I'm not sure Boston makes a convincing case that the covenant of redemption and the covenant of grace are one and the same as he did in his inferences.

But I did enjoy his last inference: 'The way to enter personally into the covenant of grace so as to partake of the benefits thereof, unto salvation, is, to unite with Christ the head of the covenant by faith.  Being thus ingrafted into him, ye shall partake of all that happiness which is secured to Christ mystical, in the everlasting covenant : even as through your becoming children of Adam, by natural generation, ye are personally entered into the first covenant, so as to fall under that sin and death which passed upon all men, by the breach thereof, Rom. V. 12.'

Those in the covenant of grace receive great happiness.
