Systematic Theology (Vol 2) - Hodge - XXXV - Chapter 7 (Satisfaction of Christ) continued

Required reading
Systematic Theology by Charles Hodge (Vol 2) (Available from Amazon or free here) - Continue Chapter 7 (Satisfaction of Christ) by reading up to the heading 'Christ our redeemer'.

My summary
This week Hodge continues speaking about the satisfaction of Christ.

Hodge now gives Scriptural proof of the satisfaction of Christ as he has outlined previously.  He shows from Scripture that:
(i) Christ saves as our priest;
(ii) Christ saves as a sacrifice (both expiation and propitiation).

What grabbed me
I liked this point about the relationship of the Christian to the law: 'Those, who by faith receive this righteousness, and trust upon it for justification, are saved ; and receive the renewing of their whole nature into the image of God. Those who refuse to submit to this righteousness of God, and go about to establish their own righteousness, are left under the demands of the law ; they are required to be free from all sin, or having sinned, to bear the penalty.'

We'd be crazy to establish our own righteousness!

Next week's reading
Continue Chapter 7 (Satisfaction of Christ) by reading up to the heading '7. Objections'.
