A view of the covenant of grace - Boston - XVI - Head IV concluded

Required reading
A view of the covenant of grace by Thomas Boston (Available from Amazon or free here) - Conclude the Fourth Head.

My summary
Today we continue the fourth head with ongoing consideration of the nature of the administration of the covenant of grace.

Previously we've seen that Christ is:
(i) the trustee of the covenant;
(ii) the testator of the covenant.

Now we see that Christ is:
(iii) the prophet of the covenant;
(iv) the king of the covenant;
(v) the intercessor of the covenant.

So, firstly in today's reading, we learn that Christ is the prophet of the covenant and administers it by intimating and offering the covenant:
(i) to sinners by his word;
(ii) to the elect by the Spirit;
(iii) to the children of the covenant.

Then, secondly in today's reading, we observe that Christ is the king of the covenant and administers it by:
(i) appointing ordinances;
(ii) royal proclamations;
(iii) effectual subjection;
(iv) gathering a church-state;
(v) ruling and governing.

Then, thirdly in today's reading, we see that Christ is the intercessor of the covenant and administers it by:
(i) interest in heaven;
(ii) appearance for us;
(iii) maintaining peace;
(iv) procuring access;
(v) obtaining admittance.

What grabbed me
I liked the comment that our King gives pardon: 'He gives them the pardons of the covenant; the pardoning of the crimes committed against the laws of God, being one of the royal prerogatives of Zion's King, whom ' God hath exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins' Acts v. 31. He gives them the first pardon, removing the guilt of revenging wrath, in their justification; and he gives them also the subsequent pardons, removing the guilt of fatherly anger, upon their renewing the actings of faith ad repentance, as was observed before. The Father having 'committed-all judgment unto the Son,' he hath dispensing of Heaven's favours, according to the method and order of the covenant; and they are not only conferred for his lake, but by his hand.'

The pardons of Christ are abundant!
