Required reading
Ante-Nicene Fathers (Vol 5) (Available from Amazon or free here) - Conclude Treatise XII.
My summary
Today we read the last of book from Cyprian's Twelfth Treatise in which he seeks to provide some heads bearing upon the religious teachings of his school.
The heads are concerned with:
(i) alms-giving;
(ii) love;
(iii) humility;
(iv) speech;
(v) suffering;
(vi) forgiveness;
(vii) baptism;
(viii) the Eucharist;
(ix) sexual relations;
(x) faith and hope;
(xi) idolatry;
(xii) family relations;
(xiii) church discipline;
(xiv) eschatology.
What grabbed me
I continue to disagree with some of Cyprian's teachings.
Today, this one stuck out: 'That the catechumen ought now no longer to sin.'
You would have to redefine sin if that is the case!
Next week's reading
Read 'The Seventh Council of Carthage Under Cyprian'.
Now it's your turn
