Spiritual depression - Lloyd-Jones - XX - Chapter 20

Required reading
Spiritual Depression by D. M. Lloyd-Jones (available from Amazon) - Read Chapter 20, 'Learning to be content'.

My summary
Now Lloyd-Jones examines Christian contentment.  Firstly he looks at what it means to be content (self-sufficient) and then how Paul acquired it (by sheer experience, arguing with himself and looking at the example of Christ).

What grabbed me
The following quote really stood out to me: 'Let me put it plainly-the danger with some of us is to spend far too much of our time even in reading about Him.  The day may come, indeed will come, when we shall not be able to read.  Then comes the test.  Will you still be happy?  Do you know Him so well that though you become deaf or blind this fount will still be open?  Do you know Him so well that you can talk to Him and listen to Him and enjoy Him always?  Will all be well because you have always been so dependent upon your relationship to Him that nothing else really matters!  That was the apostle's condition.  His intimacy with Christ was so deep and so great that he had become independent of everything else.'  A lot of my relationship with the Lord comes through reading and so to imagine whether I would be content if I was blind is an excellent challenge.  What does my relationship with God stand upon - am I content in Christ alone?
