Robert Murray M'Cheyne - Bonar - IX - Chapter 5 concluded

Required reading
Robert Murray M'Cheyne by Andrew Bonar (Available from Amazon or free here) - Conclude Chapter 5 (Days of revival).

My summary
Today we continue to see souls as M'Cheyne labours for the lost.

He also participates in a ministerial prayer meeting which proves to be a blessing for all involved.

And we read of M'Cheyne's writing efforts.  He writes a number of letters, a tract (I love the Lord's Day) and the 'Narrative of our Mission to Israel.

What grabbed me
I liked M'Cheyne's comment on fasting which was raised at the ministerial prayer meeting: 'The subject of fasting was spoken upon. Felt exceedingly in my own spirit how little we feel real grief on account of sin before God, or we would often lose our appetite for food. When parents lose a child, they often do not taste a bit from morning to night, out of pure grief. Should we not mourn as for an only child? How little of the spirit of grace and supplication we have then!"'

It is easy to fast when we are coming to the Lord for help and are truly troubled about the matter.

Next week's reading
Commence Chapter 6
(The latter days of his ministry) by reading up to the paragraph commencing '2. Reformation in Secret Prayer'.
