Reformation in Scotland - Knox - VII - Chapter 6

Required reading
Reformation in Scotland by John Knox, edited by C J Guthrie (Available from Amazon or free here)
- Read Chapter 6.

My summary
A good portion of today's reading is concerned with the Scots calling Knox from Geneva back to Scotland.  Knox responds by leaving Geneva but then stays in Dieppe after receiving some letters advising him not to return.  Then Knox returns to Geneva.

We also read of Protestant reforms coming in the orders for public and private worship and the Roman Catholic responses.

And we see the ongoing unification of Scotland with France through the machinations of the Queen Regent.

What grabbed me
Interesting to read the advice of the Reformers to the Christians: 'Secondly, it is thought necessary that doctrine, preaching and interpretation of the Scriptures be had privily in quiet houses, without great conventions of the people, until afterward God move the Prince to grant public preaching by faithful and true ministers.'

Sounds like good advice.  Keep your heads down until the government is more favourable.

Next week's reading
Commence Book II by reading the Preface and Chapter 1.
