The Fundamentals - Torrey - XXIII - Chapter 1 (The inspiration of the Bible-Definition extent and proof)

Required reading
The Fundamentals edited by R. A. Torrey (Available from Amazon or free here) - Commence Chapter 1 of Volume II (The inspiration of the Bible-Definition extent and proof) by reading up to the heading 'III. Proof of inspiration'.

My summary
Today we continue Gray's chapter on the inspiration of the Bible by reading his proofs that the Bible is inspired.

Firstly he says that inspiration of the Bible is proven by:
(i) the philosophy/nature of the case;
(ii) the history and character of the Bible;
(iii) the declarations of the Bible itself.

Then Gray backs up his claims with proof texts from both testaments.

The chapter then finishes with Gray's answers to some difficulties and objections.

What grabbed me
I loved this answer to the objection that it is difficult to accept that the Bible is inspired: 'That there are difficulties in the way of accepting a view of inspiration like this goes without saying. But to the finite mind there must always be difficulties connected with a revelation from the Infinite, and it can not be otherwise. This has been mentioned before. Men of faith, and it is such we are addressing, and not men of the world, do not wait to understand or resolve all the difficulties associated with other mysteries of the Bible before accepting them as divine, and why should they do so in this case ?'

If the Bible is really written by an infinite God and we are finite creatures, then it shouldn't surprise us that we find it difficult to understand.
