Reformation in Scotland - Knox - XIV - Chapter 4 of Book 3

My summary
Now that the Queen Regent is dead, peace arrives in Scotland: 'Upon the sixteenth day of June 1560, after the death of the Queen Regent, came into Scotland Charles de la Rochefoucauld, Seigneur de Randan, and with him Monseigneur Jean de Monlue, Bishop of Valence, in commission from France, to entreat  of peace. From England there came Sir William Cecil, Chief Secretary, and Doctor Wotton.'

The French and English leave and we are given:
(i) a prayer of thanksgiving;
(ii) details of the Scottish appointments of ministers;
(iii) actions of parliament against Roman Catholic practices.

What grabbed me
Not hard to see in the Reformers' prayer who they believe is responsible for their new found peace: 'In this our anguish, O Lord, we sobbed unto Thee ; we cried for Thy help, as Thy troubled flock, persecuted for Thy truth's sake. Mercifully hast Thou heard us. Thou hast looked upon us as pitifully as if we had given unto Thee most perfect obedience; for Thou hast disappointed the counsels of the crafty; Thou hast bridled the rage of the cruel ; and Thou hast of Thy mercy set this our perishing Realm at a reasonable liberty.'

If only we all were so quick to thank the Lord for his blessings toward us.
