The Fundamentals - Torrey - LXIII - Chapter 24 (The testimony of foreign missions to the superintending providence of God)

My summary
Today Pierson looks at the proofs of a superintending providence of God in foreign missions in the 19th century.

He tells us that the proofs may be seen from three points of view:
(i) in the divine preparations for world-wide evangelization;
(ii) in the divine co-operation in missionary activity;
(iii) in the divine benediction upon all faithful service.

What grabbed me
At the end of the chapter Pierson gave us some lessons we can take from the whole experience of the missionary work over the century.

I particularly liked this one: 'The crisis has always been turned by prayer. At the most disheartening periods, when all seemed hopeless, patient waiting on God in faith has brought sudden and abundant floods of blessing.'

Indeed, prayer has to be the foundation of any successful missionary labour.
