All things for good - Watson - VI - Chapter 5 (The tests of love to God)

My summary
Today Watson lays down fourteen signs, or fruits, of love to God.  He says it concerns us to search carefully whether any of these fruits grow in our garden.

Thus, the fruits of love for God are:
(i) musings of the mind upon God;
(ii) desire of communion;
(iii) grief over sin;
(iv) magnanimity;
(v) sensitiveness;
(vi) hatred against sin;
(vii) crucifixion of worldliness;
(viii) fear;
(ix) love of what God loves;
(x) entertaining good thoughts of God;
(xi) obedience;
(xii) endeavours to make him appear glorious in the eyes of others;
(xiii) longing for Christ's appearing;
(xiv) stooping to the meanest offices.

What grabbed me
I liked Watson's reasoning for why we love other Christians: 'We love a saint, though he be poor. A man that loves gold, loves a piece of gold, though it be in a rag: so, though a saint be in rags, we love him, because there is something of Christ in him.'

A Christian loves other Christians because they are little glimpses of Christ - the one they love most of all.
