Great Awakening - Tracy - III - Chapter 2 (Revivals of 1739, 1740)

My summary
This week we continue to hear about the spiritual condition of America before Whitefield arrived.

We hear about:
(i) Newark;
(ii) Harvard;
(iii) Northhampton;
(iv) New Londonderry;
(v) New Brunswick.

Generally speaking, the accepting of unregenerate into church membership continues to be isolated as one of the chief problems.  But then different revivals come where some are genuinely regenerated.

What grabbed me
It was really interesting to see evidence that it had to be the hand of God in the spiritual awakening. 

For example: 'Some were awakened by hearing sermons from their pastor, which he had preached to them before without affecting them.'

It's much harder to give glory to the pastor for the success of a sermon if it is a re-run.
