Required reading
The Great Awakening: A history of the revival of religion in the time of Edwards & Whitefield by Joseph Tracy (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Chapter 11 (The revival in New England).
My summary
Today we hear further about revival in New England.
This week most of the revival is seen under the minister Mr Parsons. We see:
(i) his own growth in Reformed theology;
(ii) the energy God gives him;
(iii) the conversions of many;
(iv) the strengthening of many;
(v) his itinerant ministry.
Mr Griswold also is used by God to bring many to himself.
What grabbed me
I was interested to read of the changes in the young adults: 'Many of the young people were greatly reformed. They turned their meetings for vain mirth into meetings for prayer, conference, and reading books of piety.'
How did they know that the Holy Spirit was among the young people? They began to read!
