This week Traill unpacks what it means that God is faithful.
Firstly Traill looks at the meaning of God being faithful:
(i) he promises neither rashly nor hastily;
(ii) God speaks as he thinks;
(iii) God remembers what he says;
(iv) God never changes his mind.
Secondly Traill looks at the grounds for our faith in God's faithfulness:
(i) the nature of God is faithfulness;
(ii) the unchangeableness of God;
(iii) the grace of God;
(iv) the glory of his grace;
(v) Jesus Christ;
(vi) divine truth;
(vii) divine foresight;
(viii) the power of God;
(ix) the very nature of promises.
Thirdly Traill encourages us to:
(i) magnify God's name;
(ii) count God faithful.
What grabbed me
I loved the reminder that God doesn't forget: 'God is faithful in this sense, that he remembers always what he says. There are some rash folks that promise a great deal more than they perform, because they forget a great deal of what they promised. Our Lord never forgets a word of his promise. Whenever he has made a promise to a believer, it is fixed perpetually in his heart. Forgetfulness is not to be ascribed to God.'
God doesn't forget.
The problem is that, all too often, I despair because I forget that he doesn't forget.
