Required reading
The Fundamentals edited by R. A. Torrey (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Chapter 24 (A personal testimony) and 25 (A personal testimony).
My summary
Today we begin to hear some personal testimonies.
Firstly Kelly explains his initial doubts about the truth of Christianity and then his gradual acceptance of the Bible as the word of God. He also gives a list of his beliefs.
Secondly Webb-Peploe tells us of the multiple people who witnessed to him which led to his conversion.
What grabbed me
I appreciated Kelly's reasons for believing the Bible: 'Perhaps one of my strongest reasons for believing, the Bible is that it reveals to me, as no other book in the world could do, that which appeals to me as a physician, a diagnosis of my spiritual condition. It shows me clearly what I am by nature one lost in sin and alienated from the life that is in God. I find in it a consistent and wonderful revelation, from Genesis to Revelation, of the character of God, a God far removed from any of my natural imaginings. '
The Bible really does understand the human heart better than any other book.
Next week's reading
