Required reading
The attraction of the cross by Gardiner Spring (Available from Amazon or free here) - Read Chapter 11 (The greatness of sin no obstacle to salvation by the cross).
My summary
This week Spring continues to remove objections that people have to the cross. Today's objection deals with those who claim their sin is too great for their salvation.
To overcome the objection, Spring speaks about the:
(i) infinite nature of God's compassion;
(ii) examples in Scripture of great sinners who were saved;
(iii) examples in church history of great sinners who were saved;
(iv) power of the Saviour.
Spring closes the chapter encouraging all to come to Christ, no matter how great their sin.
What grabbed me
I liked the closing paragraph: 'Think, then, of the Cross and his rich mercy, his free, immeasurable, everlasting mercy, whose " blood maketh the foulest clean.'' If you are the greatest sinner in the world, then have you the greatest need of Christ, and what is more, the greatest encouragement to come to him. There is room for the greatest sinner because there is room for the least. The least has sinned enough to perish without an interest in the Cross, and the greatest has not sinned so much but the Cross may be honored in his salvation. '
We have all sinned thus we all must come to Him, no matter how great our sin.
Next week's reading
