Dogmatic Theology Vol 3 - Shedd - VII - Theology (Doctrine of God) continued

Required reading

Dogmatic Theology Vol 3 by William G.T. Shedd (Available from Amazon or here) - Continue Theology (Doctrine of God) by reading up to the paragraph commencing 'VOL. I., p. 441. The preterition of a part of mankind in the bestowment of regenerating grace presupposes the fall, according to Calvin.' (page 179 of my edition).

My summary
Today in our theology chapter we hear about:
(i) how God is not the author of sin;
(ii) free will;
(iii) election;
(iv) the difference between common grace and saving grace.

What grabbed me
Some great quotes today from Reformed theologians, including this one from Augustine: “Whenever you read in the Scriptures of truth that men are led aside or that their hearts are blunted and hardened by God, never doubt that some ill deserts of their own have first occurred, so that they justly suffer these things. Then you will not run against that proverb of Solomon: ‘The foolishness of a man perverts his ways, yet he blames God in his heart’(Prov. 19:3).

Sin is always our fault, never God's.

Next week's reading
Continue Theology (Doctrine of God) by reading up to the paragraph commencing 'VOL. I., p. 476. Grave, in his Spicilegium Patrum....' (page 204 of my edition).
